08 Dec JEKORA VENTURES LTD (JVL) SHARES PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP (PPP) EXPERIENCE IN PROVIDING IMPROVED SANITATION IN GHANA TO THE WORLD

In the city of Blantyre, Malawi saw the convening of cities/countries from the 4th – 6th of December, 2017 that have benefited from joint grants from Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and Department for International Development (DfID) in fecal sludge management (FSM) in cities.
The objectives of the meeting was to;

1. Highlight the role of the private sector, local governments, water and sanitation utilities and civil society in the sanitation value chain;
2. Lessons learned, best practices, and common challenges in FSM service, and the design and implementation of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) and Service Level Agreements (SLA);
3. Identify ways forward for sustainable PPP and SLA implementation in participating cities
4. Develop learnings that will be consolidated into a final report to share with the sector.

JVL shared experiences and lessons from the private sector perspective on the PPP that had been facilitated by the International Water management Institute (IWMI) in 2014 and between JVL and Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) that lead to the construction and launching of the first ever Fortifer™ production plant in Borteyman, Accra (View the video of the plant HERE ). Mr. Immanuel Nartey-Tokoli, MD of JVL, highlighted that the PPP between JVL and TMA is unique in that it protects the interests of both parties’ whiles providing the right incentive for delivering improved sanitation services in Tema and Accra.
